Our wood

Solid European oak.

We work with solid European oak. No veneer, no chipboard with a printed grain — what you see at the edge runs all the way through.

It comes from Slovakia: that is where the oak grows, and where it is sawn and dried. After that it travels across Europe to our workshop in Belgium, and your board is made here. Not tropical hardwood shipped half way around the world.

Character

Real wood has figure.

Oak is a natural material that gains character over time. Small differences in colour, grain, knots and structure are not faults but the marks of real wood.

Where other materials try to be perfectly identical, real wood shows where it comes from. A knot, a colour difference, a fine crack in the end of the board: that is the tree.

That is exactly why we pick every board separately, instead of pulling it off a pile.

22 or 40 mm?

Two thicknesses, and the difference is visible and tangible.

  • 22 mm Books, frames, plants. Calm in the picture, up to about 120 cm.
  • 40 mm Heavier and visibly solid. From 120 cm, or when weight goes on it.

Character or Clear

The same oak, a different selection. You choose in the configurator.

  • Character Character With knots, colour differences and figure. The wood shows where it came from.
  • Clear Clear Calm, even grain and almost no knots. Quieter in the picture.

Finish

Oiled in the workshop, or sanded and untreated. Oil starts at € 11 and follows the size.

No oil — Sanded and nothing else. The wood stays open and colours faster.
